Description
The City of Northville, Michigan,
located in Wayne/Oakland Counties approximately 30 miles west of Detroit,
between Detroit and Ann Arbor, is seeking a Fire Chief to manage its
paid-on-call Fire Department. The current Fire Chief is retiring after 35 years
of service, 7 years as Chief.
The City of Northville Fire
Department provides fire suppression, fire prevention/inspection, public safety
education and BLS level emergency medical services to the Cities of Northville
and Plymouth, located in Wayne and Oakland Counties, Michigan. The two Cities
are non-contiguous, with approximately three miles between their borders. The
two Cities have a combined area of approximately 4.5 square miles, and a
combined residential population of approximately 15,000. The Department
responds to approximately 1,600 calls for service each year.
The City of Northville operates
under the Council-Manager form of government with the Fire Chief reporting to
the City Manager with significant input from both Cities through the Northville
Plymouth Fire Advisory Board (“NPFAB”), consisting of elected and appointed
officials from each community. The Fire Department operates out of three
stations, and is staffed by a full time Chief, two part-time Station Captains
(one of whom also serves as the Fire Marshal) and 52 paid-on call Officers,
Firefighters and EMS providers. The proposed FY 2022 Fire Department Budget is
approximately $1,150,000.
The City of Northville is seeking
an individual with proven strong managerial experience in the operation of a
paid-on-call fire department. The selected candidate must possess strong
leadership skills with emphasis on recruitment, training and performance
measurement, a dedication to community involvement, experience with
intergovernmental cooperation, possess excellent communication and public
relations skills, be a contributing member of the City's management team, and
have experience in budget preparation and control.
