Published on Jan 31, 2021 05:54

Snow started falling in the City of Plymouth around 4:15 a.m. and as of 5:45 there is about one-half of an inch on the ground. The National Weather Service is predicting that the snow will continue until around 10:00 a.m.  and maybe some flurries this afternoon.  City Municipal Services crews are responding to the current snow event at this time.

As of 5:45 a.m. all Major Streets in the City are snow covered with some slick spots.  The current temperature of 27f degrees is ideal for deicing materials effectiveness.  Municipal Services crews will be focusing their work on the Major Streets until they are clear and wet.  Crews may also be plowing the light snow from from the roadways as they are salting, using the "belly plows" on their equipment.  These special plows are designed for light snow falls.   For more information on our equipment check out this video feature Dave from the Department of Municipal Services:  DMS Truck with Dave

Drivers should use caution on the roads early this morning as there may be some slick spots.  Remember the advice from the Michigan State Police that snow equals slow.  Also, please give snow plow/salt trucks plenty of room to work and please don't crowd the plow.

Early morning walkers or runners should also be aware of slick spots on the sidewalks that may be covered with freshly fallen snow.  Also, walkers/runners should be wearing reflective gear and carry a light to allow drivers to see you when crossing streets.

Remember to drive safe, be sure that you are buckled up and to allow a little extra time to get where you are going this morning.  If you have questions regarding this report please contact the Department of Municipal Services at [email protected]
