Building Department

 

The Building Department is responsible for the enforcement of the Zoning, Building, Housing, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Codes, and Ordinances the City.

The City of Plymouth is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the State of Michigan Codes. These Codes include:

·         Michigan Building Code 2006

·         Michigan Residential Code 2006

·         Michigan Plumbing Code 2006

·         Michigan Mechanical Code 2006

·         National Electrical Code 2008

Building inspections are conducted:
Every business day, during normal business hours.

Plumbing and Mechanical inspections are conducted:
Tuesday and Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Electrical inspections are conducted:
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, after 4:30 p.m.

Contractors and homeowners can also view the status of all permits for authorized work in the City of Plymouth by accessing our online database of tax, assessing and permit information.

The City of Plymouth Building Department is also responsible for traffic engineering, street signs, planning and zoning issues, and soil erosion and sedimentation control. It also acts as the City liaison to the Zoning Board of Appeals, Planning Commission, and the Kellogg Park Historic District.

An additional responsibility of the Building Department is the enforcement of the City Code of Ordinances through the Code Enforcement Officer. This person's primary responsibility is to obtain compliance with the City Code. This done through face-to-face contact, letters and telephone calls.
