CITY COMMISSION

 

SPECIAL MEETING

 

MONDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2002  6:30 P.M.

 

 

A special meeting of the Plymouth City Commission was held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, October 21, 2002, in the Commission Conference Room, at City Hall, 201 S. Main Street, in the City of Plymouth, Michigan.

 

PRESENT:  Mayor Bill Graham, Pro-tem Colleen Pobur, and Commissioners Ron Loiselle, Dan Dwyer, Michele Potter, Stella Greene and Phil Pursell

 

Also present were City Manager, Paul Sincock, City Attorney, Bob Marzano, various department heads.

 

2.                  Grievance Hearing

 

City Manager, Paul Sincock stated the grievance hearing is the 4th step to the grievance process.  Randy Smith, the senior Zamboni/Maintenance Operator, member of the Teamsters Local 214 filed a grievance alleging violation of Article V, Paragraph B and has requested the his schedule remain the same.

 

Mr. Jim Markley, Teamsters Union Agent, stated that there is a disagreement in the contract language.  Markley stated that Mr. Smith has been employed with the Parks and Recreation Department for 23-24 years and is the senior employee, and feels that in accordance with the Union Contract his is the senior employee and should not have to take a turn at working the weekend shift.  Mr. Smith currently works Monday through Friday.  Markley stated the Union would like a written response from the Commission by the next regular Commission Meeting.

 

Mayor Pro-tem Pobur asked is Mr. Smith was treated any different then the other two (2) full-time employees.  Manager Sincock stated no, Mr. Smith was not treated any differently than the other employees with the same classification.  Mr. Markley stated Mr. Smith feels that due to his seniority he should be able to stay on his current shift.

 

Comm. Dwyer asked for a description of the closing shift.  Manager Sincock stated it was closing down the building for the evening.

 

Mayor Graham stated the Commission would take this request under advisement and respond after the next Commission meeting.

 

ADJOURNMENT

 

A motion was made by Comm. Dwyer and seconded by Comm. Potter for adjournment of the meeting at 6:45 p.m.  Motion carried unanimously.
