Learn to Play Hockey - Mighty Mini Mite Program - 2014/15 Season
The Mighty Mini-Mites is a learn-to-play hockey program geared towards the beginning player with an emphasis on skill development. It is intended for children ages 4 to 8.

Mighty Mini-Mites Program Format and Fees

The program includes weekly on-ice instruction by experienced, USA Hockey Certified coaches, pond hockey (scrimmage) game experience and two jerseys. Players also have the opportunity to participate in the Mini-Mite spring league, the annual Christmas party, as well as other activities that are organized with the help of parent volunteers.  Children who participate in the Mighty Mini-Mite program are given priority registration status for PCHA hockey teams the following fall, if age eligible.     
  • Session I skates from September 6 through December 27. An hour-long session is held every Saturday from 3:00-4:00 pm or 4:00-5:00 pm (times dependent upon number of kids registered).  The cost for Session I is $200.
  • Session II skates from January 3 through March 28.  In addition to the Saturday instructional skate, additional ice is scheduled for pond hockey (scrimmage) games.  The cost for Session II is $200.   
  • Parents will need to register their children with USA Hockey at the beginning of the season.  USA Hockey is the governing body of youth hockey.  Registration is free to children 6 & Under.  There is a $45 fee for children 7 & Older.

Equipment Needed

Full equipment includes shin guards, hockey socks, athletic supporter with cup (boys) / pelvis protector (girls), hockey pants, elbow pads, gloves, shoulder pads, jersey, unexpired hockey helmet with full face guard, neck guard, skates and ice hockey stick.

A limited quantity of gear sets are available to borrow for the season.  Please contact Tracey Moran or call at 734-455-6620 x 314.

Mighty Mini-Mite FAQs

What is the age of the players in the program? 

The program is designed for ages 4 to 8 but each child develops at their own rate.

When does the Mighty Mini-Mite Season run? 
Session I skates from September 6 through December 27.  Session II skates from January 3 through March 28.  

When are practices / games? 
An hour-long session is held every Saturday from 3:00-4:00 pm or 4:00-5:00 pm (times are dependent upon the number of kids registered).  Starting in January, additional one-hour skates will be added for pond hockey (scrimmage) games.

Where do they play? 
All practices and games will be held at the Plymouth Cultural Center Ice Arena. The address of the Cultural Center is 525 Farmer Street, Plymouth, MI 48170.

How will I be contacted after I register for the program?
You will receive additional information from the Program Director about the parents meeting before the first skate of the year. 

What should the players wear on the first day? 
Player should come to the arena with the equipment listed above and be ready to skate.  The players will receive their "group" jerseys after the evaluation skate.

I'm borrowing a gear set.  Do I need to purchase any additional equipment?
Our gear sets do not include athletic support with cup (boys) / pelvis protector (girls), neck guards or hockey socks.  These items can be purchased from most sporting good stores.
