Large / Oversized Items
Special Refuse Tag Purchase Location
The City of Plymouth requires all large and/or odd items have a special refuse tag, which can be purchased at the Municipal Services Department located at:
1231 Goldsmith 
Plymouth, MI 48170

The department is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.

Common Items
Below are some of the more common items:
  • Carpet: Fold or roll into sections no wider than 3 feet in length and weighing no more than 50 pounds. Each bundle requires a tag.
  • Couch: Requires a special refuse tag.
  • Concrete: Not accepted at curbside or at our open-top dumpster located at the DMS yard.
  • Paint: Dry latex paint cans only may be placed in regular trash providing the cans are empty and dry and with the lids off.
  • Refrigerators: Freon must be removed by a heating and cooling company certified in freon removal, before it can be placed at curbside. A certification sticker must be placed on the unit and any doors must be removed from the hinges. There is a charge for this service by the company; however, there is no additional charge for pick up.
  • Air conditioners: Freon must be removed by a heating and cooling company.
  • Root balls: Make sure all dirt / rocks are knocked off. Place them at the curb. DMS staff will handle periodically.
  • Sod: Is not accepted – call the local landfill.
