Permit Applications
You can apply for a permit in person at City Hall. In addition you can also apply via mail or fax, by filling out the necessary forms below:

Permit Requirements
  • The building permit must be posted where it is visible form the street.
  • Call (734) 453-1234 ext. 232 to schedule inspections. A 24-hour notice is required for scheduling of all inspections.
  • Plumbing and mechanical inspections are made on Tuesdays and Thursdays only, between 8:00 am and 10:00 am unless special arrangements are made.
  • Electrical inspections are made after 4:30 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, unless special arrangements are made.
  • The Building Department hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday - Friday.
  • All permits expire six months from the date of issue or the last inspection.
  • A recall charge of $45 will be charged for the re-inspection of work not ready for scheduled inspection.
  • Property owners, contractors, or their agents must be present to let inspectors into the premises for indoor inspections.
  • Do not cover work until all required inspections have been made.
  • The City of Plymouth enforces the following Building Codes:
    • 2009 Michigan Building Code
    • 2009 Michigan Residential Code
    • 2009 Michigan Plumbing Code
    • 2009 Michigan Mechanical Code
    • 2008 National Electrical Code (NEC), Commercial with Michigan Electrical Code Rules, Part 8 Residential is listed under: 2006 Residential Code
